EPIF’s underground gas storage facilities provide a platform for developing innovative renewable energy storage capabilities. While large-scale storage of green energy is still limited and surplus generation of renewables is often curtailed, EPIF’s subsidiaries led by Nafta are among the innovators exploring the use of underground gas storage infrastructure to address this challenge. Nafta has launched project Henri which has received a status of Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) and is focused on identifying suitable sites for hydrogen storage and assessing the maximum achievable concentration within porous geological structures.
